![]() I still think Shadow Warrior has aged worse than Duke3D or Blood though but I can't quite pinpoint why. Yeah that's kinda their gimmick disappearing like that. Oh yeah, as for the humor, it's very much in the style of Bulletstorm - self-aware dick jokes and a slightly stupid, bumbling protagonist - although not quite as sharply written. I've gone from being vaguely curious about this one to excitedly waiting to get hold of the full version. I only found a few in my first run through the beta, which is effectively the 'shareware' episode of the full game. The levels are big and old-school enough to hide a lot of secrets and easter eggs. The closest points of reference I can come up with are Ninja Gaiden (for the level structure, enemy design, dismemberment-heavy sword focused elements, rankings on each fights) and Bulletstorm (you're rewarded more points for varied kills, crazy-powerful guns, complex upgrade system, buying ammo with points). In fact, I don't think I've played anything quite like it, which is pretty exciting in of itself. ![]() I was either expecting something a lot like the original, or Hard Reset dressed up in vaguely asian clothing. I was really pleasantly surprised by this. I also wrote a preview of this one over at Indie Statik. New trailer, with a release date (September 26) and a choice of digital stores (Steam, GOG and Humble Store) Mental Midget fucked around with this message at 19:14 on Mar 18, 2014 After they're dead, you'll swap to your crossbow and put a bolt through an enemy spellcaster as you sprint towards his friends, then wind up another crossbow shot as you do a sideways slash into the last enemy and simultaneously lodge a bolt in its cranium. You'll unleash a blast of magic force to knock enemies down, then try and behead them once they hit the floor. You'll run into a room with a submachine gun in each hand, and when you empty your clip into an oncoming wave of enemies you'll swap rapidly to a katana. "It is gleefully fun to fight in this game. "One slice with protagonist Lo Wang’s katana can decapitate, dismember, and chop enemies into several chunks as fountains of blood erupt from their collapsing bodies." Other preview impressions around the interwebs: It’s satisfyingly meaty, and a sword swing has a visibly different effect to a spray of SMG fire. "The locational damage system is downright impressive, with every enemy able to be chopped into tiny pieces, or even skeletonized by sustained gunfire. with a great melee combat system added in to boot. ![]() I really enjoy the Serious Sam series as well and I am getting major SS vibes from this gameplay. The way that the damage modeling occurs to enemies based on the exact swipe and angle of the sword is brilliant. The katana melee weapon within the game is the best melee FPS weapon I've ever used. ![]() On sale 75% off ($9.99) On Steam Until March 23rdįrom Flying Wild Hog, devs of Hard Reset as well as a bunch of people from the Painkiller team comes a reboot of Shadow Warrior.
